Below Zero – How to Protect On The Inside

-50 DEGREES!!!! Yes -50 degrees windchill outside friends. Yikes. 😨 I like to call winter the season we regularly ask ourselves “just why in tarnation do we continue to live here?”

The answer to that question could be logical or even illogical. Depends on the day I suppose. Or perhaps the temperature outside more likely.

Here in Saskatchewan, we are just coming out of the polar vortex that hit much of North America. Even the term polar vortex can give you chills. Brrrrr! 🥶 I guess it can be called Polar Vortex season now, I seem to remember this happening in the past couple years too.

Even though up here we know it’s coming, even it if waits until after Christmas like it did this year, the cold will indeed come. Even though now we hear the endless “discussion” about how the temperature keeps “changing” fundamentally one thing will never change.

We will go through winter and will have to deal with the difficult parts of the Canadian winter.

But just how do we go about handling the difficult parts? Including the temperature dropping!!

There are so many aspects to what happens outside being connected to what happens inside of our bodies. Maybe it’s something you are very aware of, or maybe it’s something that you have never thought of.

During this season we usually are needing to stay inside and spend so much time indoors with our furnaces blowing full blast just trying to keep up and stay warm. Thank goodness when it does keep up.

But what does that do to our insides?? Hhmmm?? I will give you just a quick couple of things to get you thinking.

Even though we are so grateful for the warmth, furnaces can just dry out everything. From our skin on the outside to putting more stress on our internal organ systems.

One of the more important things is to level up on the healthy oils!

Yet not just any oil will do. It matters the type and quality of oil, quality of production and manufacturing.

One other thing that we usually notice by spending so much time inside is just how we are more affected by all the things that other people share with us. Normally the idea of sharing is encouraged and positive, but in this case sharing isn’t so nice.

Please don’t share your germs with me!! Unfortunately we are at the mercy of certain circumstances as to how much sharing and receiving goes on.

But we don’t need to be apathetic and at the mercy of others in how we respond.

That doesn’t mean all hope is lost. No friend, not lost. It all comes back to personal choice and intentionality. These are key factors I tend to repeat over and over. Instead of just throwing up our hands and saying there is nothing I can do about this, I encourage you to take charge and do what you can to make it better.

IMMUNE SYSTEM! Yes one of the most critical parts our body and our health. Since our immune system is on the outside (our skin) of our bodies and on the inside (digestive system, etc) winter hits that system like a gut punch.

Maybe even in the gut literally.

So enough of the fluff, here are some of the goods to aim yourself for combat.

  • If you are already taking multivitamins, nutrients, etc INCREASE the level you are taking.

Since winter hits harder your body will use up the nutrients it has stored much faster and in greater quantities just to keep functioning. More is definitely better. But making high quality choices is very important too.

It’s better to be preemptive and give your immune system the tools it might need to combat whatever it might face, before it happens, rather than after. It’s much harder to help out your immune system after it’s defences have been reduced.

  • Increase the healthy oils/fats you are getting in.

If you aren’t taking any in separately, this would be the perfect time to start. You can think of our bodies kind of like a car. Kind of! A car needs different fluids to run properly. Including oil. If your car doesn’t have it’s oil managed properly over it’s lifetime, there would be problems. Big problems. All vehicles need oil. All humans need oil (healthy oil) to survive. What would happen if you just let your car run out of oil. Disaster for sure. Possible irreplaceable damage.

You wouldn’t want that to happen to you, right? The lower the temperature gets, the more healthy oils your body will need. I am so grateful to have found a high quality product that I do recommend. Here is a link. Please comment below or message me if you would like more information.

There are of course so many more things you can do to help out your body during the chilly season. I’ve have just given you a couple to get you thinking.

There are moments when I start to think that bears really have this winter thing figured out, hibernating and all that, but truthfully I do still enjoy winter. Even if there are times I question my sanity about it all!

So friends, no matter where you live. Here in the great white north, different parts of Europe or North America we can all stick together to get through this and do things to make it better even if it’s -50 degrees!!

Warm weather is just around the corner! I promise. 😊😊
