O CANADA – You’re How Old!

1867 really wasn’t all that long ago. Dear Canada, you are still a youngster in the grand scene of countries and history. Maybe more like a teenager in comparison to other countries that have centuries of history on us.

Today, July 1st, is a very important day for those who call Canada home. It’s Canada Day or Dominion Day to the more particular.

We have a really special country so it’s important that we take time to celebrate that. Celebrating and taking time to be grateful is so important.

I know there are so many difficult things happening in our country right now. That doesn’t take away from the important part we play as a country, and who we are as a nation.

I am currently in California. My original intent was not to be in California or even the United States for Dominion Day. Read my previous post about control for more details. But here I am.

In the midst of a stressful situation taking away my attention from celebrating my country, today I have found it difficult to find ways to celebrate. I know I missed all of the BBQs, fun events in the park, live music and absolutely the fireworks, which makes me sad.

I had a conversation with an employee of the Barnes and Noble I spent far too much time in yesterday. (Letting me loose in any bookstore is dangerous). I happen to mention that I was from Canada. He perked up right away and was very excited to talk to me about my home.

His greatest wish was to come to see as much of Canada as possible and to take the train through the Rockies and prairies. It was fun to talk to him about how beautiful Canada is and remember just how proud I am of Canada.

Now I know there are great difficulties happening in Canada right now. It makes me very sad and sometimes mad. But no matter what happens, or which politician runs our nation, my pride and love for my country will not diminish.

Although the Dominion of Canada did not officially start until July 1, 1867, we have hundreds more years of culture, history and stories to tell. So much to be proud of.
