Steps – Just Lay It All Out For Me

Just tell me what I have to do. Don’t we all feel like that at some points in our lives? Just tell me what I have to do, and then I can do it, or decide how to move forward. That way we don’t have to do those dreaded things like having to think, decide, investigate, or weigh those difficult decisions. Ugghhhhh.

Just tell me what to do and I will do it. If only it were that easy. I mean truthfully that easy right? So many of us want to have to make fewer decisions in our lives and just ease that burden. But reality is that we can’t do that.

So what if that was done for you? Health-wise anyway?

So many of us are in, or have been through, a health crisis. That point of crisis isn’t really the easiest time to fully research and think through making better health choices. There is so much pressure and stress and usually your mind goes all fuzzy when that happens.

After I heard that dreaded word “cancer” my mind went blank. I just went in to a fog of shock. That point in time was when I had to absorb what I had just heard, pay attention to what the doctor was telling me, think through my treatment options, think through the consequences and think through health alternatives and just try to continue to just function and get through the rest of what I needed to do.

But not surprisingly, the last thing I had was clarity in those moments. Where was I going to find the ability to think through other steps I could take for my health?

When we are stressed, I think we probably just want to reduce the stress and find the easier path forward. Don’t make me choose what happens. Right? Are you tracking with me? What do you think? Is that true?

Maybe it’s only me but I think our natural inclination can be to reduce the difficulties and the stress of what we are going through. To find some way to make it easier to move forward. Make it better.

But in the end the easy path forward isn’t always the best. The stress that can come in those situations partially anyway, is from knowing we need to make a wise decision, a good decision. Usually it’s just the best one we can with what we have at that moment.

In the intensity of the stress I have definitely felt like I just wanted someone else to make the decision for me. Relieve me of that stress. But we know that isn’t the best. We have to make our own decisions. Anyone else can provide advice, but in the end, specifically with health decisions it almost always needs to be a decision made by me or you.

For me, prayer is key. Prayer for wisdom, understanding and courage to make the necessary decision. Prayer is not the only piece to the puzzle, but it will always be the largest piece for me.

I have been blessed throughout my many health journeys to have found some wonderful tools that have helped me. They have eased my burden in many ways in deciding the path forward in my health decisions. I am very grateful for this knowledge and these tools.

Friend, are you struggling to know the path forward in your life? Knowing what decision to make? What health decision is right for you? Maybe even for a loved one? If you are in the midst of that right now, know that I am praying for you. I would love to hear your story.

  1. You hit the nail on the head Melodee – prayer is so important – to just talk to God and seek His peace and direction about a situation. It is so helpful to leave the burden of a difficult situation in His care for He is a God of love and all power, then we don’t have to deal with a situation on our own, we can do it together with God – I can think of no better plan!
