New Year’s resolution. Uuggghhh. I can just hear the groaning from you. I get it. I totally get it.
It’s just one of those things that comes around every year whether you like it or hate it. Lots of people have lots of suggestions and hints and explanations. Helpful or not.
I’m wanting to take another approach. What about if you tried doing a New Year’s resolution now, in November? Wait, what? That’s weird.
Yup, I know but that’s ok. Honestly what is the worst that could happen? Right?
So what do I mean? Well it’s pretty basic. Why wait until January 1st?
I suppose if you started now you could just call it a good old resolution. But that sounds a little boring. New Year’s resolution just has a better ring to it, right?
There is nothing magical or extra special about that date, other than the starting of a new year. Since we can do things at different times, anytime we would like really, January 1st is only one out of 365 options.
Or here’s another tactic. As we head towards January 1st, you can prepare. Why wait until the date comes? Prepare for the new year today. Maybe you sit down now and figure out what your plan is and what you want to do when the big day comes.
So this is the tactic I am taking this year. I am implementing the plan now. I do have goals and things I would like to accomplish in 2024. But I’m not waiting until the first day of 2024 to get going.
Why wait? In my opinion that would be a waste of time for me.
So I’m excited to figure it out and get going now. I think it’s smart to beat the rush and be ahead of everyone else. Don’t you?
Now maybe you might say to me that resolutions just aren’t for me Melodee. No problem, I’m not here to twist your arm. That actually sounds painful.
Have you ever wondered how long people have been making resolutions? Truthfully I hadn’t even thought about it until now and maybe you hadn’t either. But after some searching I did learn that the tradition can be traced back all the way to the Babylonians about 4,000 years ago.
That’s a long time. Some of their resolutions were reported to be vows to pay off debt and return farm equipment. Doesn’t really sound all that different from some things people would choose on January 1st now.
So friend if you are working on your resolution to start it right away, looking to get going with the masses on January 1st or frankly don’t care at all, I know you will figure out the best option for you. I’m praying for you, that you will have wisdom and guidance whatever path you choose.
