If you have been following me for a length of time, you will already know I normally just post about my thoughts and infrequently share links or connections to other media.
This post is one of those times when I share something that I think is really important for you. Important enough to share with all of you no matter where you live.
Even if you don’t live in Canada, I encourage you to watch the documentary. It focuses on Canada, but applies to other countries and has crucial ideas for all of us to think through.
For anyone who has heard that Canada has one of the best medical systems or heard a politician say that you should vote for them so you can get the “free” healthcare that we have up here in the great white north, you need to ask a lot of questions. A lot.
For so many of us who have had to rely on the Canadian medical system, it has been a mixed bag of results. Sometimes it has gone really well and support and delivery has been great, but for some many situations it has been devastating.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Yes our Canadian health care system is incredibly broken, but it’s not fully destroyed, yet. I believe it can be saved. Most of us know the system could and should be so much better. Even if you believe that, you might not know how it can improve.
If you want to learn more, this is a great opportunity. After becoming more educated, you can talk with your friends and family. and help them see the hope to make things better.
And you can also take stronger steps to increase the functionality by engaging on these ideas, with all levels of community leaders and especially politicians. Even show them this documentary.
Change is possible. There is hope. Let this hope lead you to action.
Step one is watching the documentary. It is a presentation just released by Second Street which is a Canadian organization studying how government policies affect Canadians. I encourage you to take a look at who they are and what they do on their website HERE.
Click on this link to watch the documentary, “Health Reform Now”. It’s only 40 minutes, so not too long.
Step two, take action after watching the documentary. That action will look different for each of you. Share this with a friend. Talk to your family. Do more research. Set up a meeting with your local politician to ask what they are doing to make things better. There are endless ways for you to take action. Please do.
Here is another suggestion for you to learn more. I was very impressed when I read this book on the Canadian health care system by Dr. Shawn Whatley. “When Politics Comes Before Patients” There are many interviews with him online you can check out.
Above all friend, I think everyone should be more educated about our medical system, or if you live in another country become more educated about your own medical care system. I hope you will do that.
It is something that many of us take for granted until we need it. Don’t take it for granted anymore.
