Homemade – It’s What The Cool Kids Do

Ok maybe that is a slight exaggeration. But maybe some cool kids do it. I have no idea.

After that catchy opening line you are probably just really confused and hoping I get to the point soon. 😳

This is all about making butter. Yup making butter. If you haven’t already stopped reading yet, thanks, I’m getting to where this might apply to you.

At the beginning of this year I promised myself I would do something I haven’t done in a very long time. We used to do this as kids. Only we used glass bottles and had to shake it all until it felt like our arms were going to fall off. (Maybe that was just me 😉). I thought that was the only way to make butter for a very long time.

I thought this butter making would be a relatively small promise to keep to myself this year. I don’t really want to call it a new years resolution and you can call it whatever you want.

It’s really just something along the lines of making small changes to head towards improvement and making better choices. Ah there is that word again. CHOICE.

At this point you should just assume every post will talk about choices. That would be a very safe assumption. 👍

I thought I could commit to doing this for one year and see how that would go and decide about continuing it after that. Here is an update halfway through the year.

So it has been wildly successful. Even if I do say so myself! 😊

Now I know you might be thinking that I’m living in the wrong decade or century. No not the 1990’s more like the 1890’s. I can just see you picturing me sitting next to a wooden butter churn just cranking it around and around.

Well if that is what you are thinking I won’t tell you about my cross-stitch project or my quilting project. I promise I won’t tell you all about them. You definitely won’t be able to picture me living in this century after that.

But I can assure you I am living in the correct century. I am just using modern tools to do something people have been doing regularly at home until the most recent generations.

So honestly you are probably asking me why I’m going on and on about this. Just get to the point already, Melodee! Will do.

I would like to encourage you to try something like this. No you don’t have to try to make butter, although I highly encourage it. Homemade butter is delish!!

My biggest problem has been figuring out what to make with the buttermilk I have left over. I have been mastering a fantastic dill, cheese biscuit recipe but there is so much room to branch out to other tasty treats.

So if any of you have any buttermilk recipes you would recommend I would love to get them. You can contact me directly through the contact option on my website.

Once again you are probably wondering just how this can relate to you. Here is where the choice comes in. You thought I would forget, I know it. I didn’t forget though!

I made a decision to do something that I knew would be a commitment for me. I always need to be on the ball and make sure I have the special whipping cream I use on hand when my butter supply is running low. Then I need to find time to make sure I whip up my supply before I run out.

It’s really not a huge thing in my life, but the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction is worth it. Don’t get me wrong, there are other things in my life that I am also proud of. But this provides the return on investment so quickly.

Plus who doesn’t love the amazing taste of melting butter on warm biscuits. I have to stop now before my stomach starts rumbling too much.

Here is my first batch and what I did. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFQ3CcSPb5k/?igsh=dmR4OWp4b3ZveGd1

So friend, is there something in your life that you have been thinking about trying? Even if it’s a small thing? Maybe something you might be thinking is too small or won’t make a difference? Maybe it’s just the project or task that after might give you the positive push to try something a little bigger or tougher next time.

We all need something in our lives where we are able to put effort in and produce something. Create something. My choice is a little less creative than other ones would be. Unless I work on a piece of art made from butter. Hmmmm, maybe not. I’ll just eat it, thank you very much.

I encourage you to pursue that small change that could have great impact for you.

(Don’t forget to send me any recipes you have to use up my buttermilk.)
