Gratitude – It’s Key To Your Health

Gratitude.

Being thankful.

Practicing thanksgiving.

We know we should be thankful for things in our lives. I’m not breaking new ground by saying that. I hope not at least.

But I want to focus more on how a grateful heart and spirit impacts your physical health.

Have you ever experienced positive benefits from practicing gratitude in any way? Maybe you have but you have never really noticed. Not really something you have paid attention to.

Here in Canada, we are celebrating the annual designated holiday specifically created for being thankful. That must mean it’s important right? I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to reach that conclusion.

Here is a quick look at some of the basic health benefits.

My goal each morning is to identify things I am grateful for. But I’m not here to pat myself on the back about this. That’s my goal but I’m going to be honest with you, it’s a goal probably only achieved 50% of the time, maybe. Lots of room for improvement.

But when I do practice that gratitude I feel overwhelming calm and peace. Even when I say I’m grateful for simple things I generally take for granted, like a vehicle that gets me where I need to go or a warm home with a furnace that is working on those cold, cold Saskatchewan nights.

When I think of things to be grateful for, quite often a specific person comes to mind. If I’m on the ball I will reach out to this individual to check in.

Isn’t it amazing when someone reaches out to you, possibly out of the blue, and wants to check in and maybe tell you that they are thankful for you. I hope you have a circle of people in your life that will do that with you.

I really try to start my day being thankful for a new day full of potential and possibilities. Even if I know it might hold challenges. Even though I know a tough day is ahead, I work to find joy and gratitude for living another day. I don’t express gratitude because of my circumstances but in spite of them quite often.

I can actually feel the physical changes when I do that. That might sound weird I know, but it’s true.

What about you friend? I know it’s asking a lot, but I don’t think it’s asking too much. Are you willing to try it? If you do try it, I would love to hear about it. Send me a quick message through my contact page or comment below. I would really like to hear about how this goes for you.

So friend, as always I am praying for you with this. Praying you practice a spirit of gratitude. Praying that you see physical, mental and spiritual changes when you practice gratitude. I use the term practice gratitude for a reason.

Some of you have never lived life in that space at all. Being thankful very often or for very many things you have. So you might be a little rusty on doing this. It might take a little practice and it might feel a little uncomfortable. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.

It might take some practice for you. But oh boy is it worth it. It also takes effort. But that effort is worth it for sure. Practicing gratitude is a choice every day.

Gratitude isn’t something to only do when everything is going perfect and according to plan in your life, it’s much more important when things might not be staying on track.

So I encourage you to choose to have a heart of gratitude, you health might just depend on it.
