Have you ever started looking for something new to buy? Maybe like a vehicle. After you start to research, walking through car lots and going for test drives, you begin to see just how many people around you, own the model you are looking at.
Before you started looking, you didn’t think there were many people who owned it. But once you start looking at it, you start to see them everywhere. It’s really just that you have more knowledge and start paying attention in a different way.
I think that is what happened to me. Really once I had gone through cancer, I really didn’t look at the world through the same eyes. I started to see so many things differently. I’m sure that even if you haven’t gone through cancer like me, you have at least bought a car, so you can relate in some way. You have been through something that completely changed your view on things, your life or your relationships.
Things we go through can really change us. But like so many other things it’s really a choice. Going through things changes us. I know that how I see the world today is not the same way that I looked at the world before I received that news from the oncologist.
I don’t think I want to see the world through the same eyes. Going through tough stuff can broaden your scope, your perspective. I think that’s pretty great. I’d rather have a broader perspective than a narrow perspective any day even if it comes through tough situations.
This new information or perspective can colour every day after that. In good ways and in bad ways. I think about cancer much more often than other health issues. And I probably think about cancer more than the average person.
After our eyes have been opened to something new, we likely have one of two different reactions. The first is to wish we could go back to the before time when we didn’t see things in a new way. The other is to be grateful for the new perspective.
The reaction we have is really based on our choice. What we choose to do based on the situation we are faced with.
It also can be an opportunity to help others see things differently. We don’t all need to go through a situation to gain a new perspective. We just need someone or something to open our eyes. Maybe you can do that. Share something with someone you know or love to help them see things through different eyes. A different perspective. Maybe something they have never thought of before.
There are different ways to gain a new perspective. Including diving in and doing more research is one. That one can be tougher in some ways because it means you will need to put time and effort in to it. And possibly you won’t even know where to start. But in my experience it has been worth it.
What about you? Is there something you might want to look in to, or is there something that you might be able to help someone else find a new perspective on? Find a new pair of glasses to look through?
I am here for you friend and praying for you, as you navigate seeing the world through new eyes.

I think that the things that happen in our lives are for a purpose – that we will have a new perspective and that we can understand and help other people around us. It is important to not let these experiences in our lives go to waste but to make the most of them.
