Savour It – It’s Worth It

Well it should surprise no one when I mention that Christmas time is right around the corner. Yes friend, it is already December!

If you didn’t know that, now you are up to speed.

Christmas is coming quite quickly as is the usual. At least that is my experience. In one moment it seems so far away and then all at one time it arrives so fast. Almost unexpectedly.

How are you feeling friend? Has Christmas arrived without warning?

Even if Christmas time has seemingly popped up out of nowhere, that’s ok.

Even if you feel like you have no time, no space for thinking and definitely no time for enjoyment of this special time of the year, I encourage you to stop, just for a moment.

Stop while you read this, well I mean keep reading of course, but slow down a bit and take a moment to think about what I am going to say.

Are you ready?

How are you going to make this time of year special?

How are you going to make the most of it?

How are you going to make special memories?

How are you going to savour the moments that are meaningful?

If you say, “don’t worry Melodee, I have got that covered. I’m good”. Well I am glad if you can say that. You are ahead of so many.

Life passes us by at lightning speed which increases as the years zoom by. But we still have choices.

Choices that can make a difference. Choices to embrace the time we have and the people we have to spend it with.

Maybe you might need to make different choices this year. Decide to bring back an old family tradition that has been long abandoned. Maybe you will pull out an old item that will bring back memories long forgotten.

Maybe you will go out and do something, see someone, do an activity that brings things from your past in to your present.

Maybe you will do something completely new with the most precious people in your life.

Friend, how are you going to savour this moment, this time? Savour the time you have today. Don’t wait for something down the road. Some special, well timed, well planned event in the future. That honestly may never happen, no matter how well meaning.

Sometimes we think that the best memories are made in the big things. Not true friend, not true. Some of the most important blessings happen in the small moments.

Maybe it’s baking a batch of cookies you have made dozens of times. Maybe it’s playing that game you used to love but haven’t pulled out in forever. Watching that favourite Christmas movie you have on DVD (yes go old-school). Maybe it’s just going on a walk in the fresh winter air.

I live where that fresh winter air can get as low as -40 celsius (and fahrenheit). So it might just take your breathe away!

So friend, I pray as you keep heading towards Christmas, and however you plan to spend those days, that you will take time, make space for the moments to savour. Big or little. Savour each one of them.
