Control. It’s something that we all would like, even if we won’t admit it to others and we can’t admit it to ourselves. You know it’s true.
I am right in the middle of dealing with a huge loss of control.
I’m out of the country on a trip right now, and one of the unions for the airline I am flying with has had issues and the contract talks broke down again and immediately most flights were being cancelled left, right and centre.
Talk about feeling out of control and not feeling like I have many choices. I am literally at the mercy of a problem that is being handled in another country by two different parties that are at odds with each other. Thousands of kilometres away.
My situation deals with unions, airlines, flights and a lot of confusion. But most likely the situation where you feel out of control is different.
It could be loss of control in your job, with your family, in any relationship, your future, something related to finances. The circumstances are endless.
But friend how do you deal with the feeling of a lack of control? It’s pretty tough I know.
There are so many times I am in these situations and I don’t deal with it well. Sometimes I deal with it very poorly. So I am absolutely not sitting here telling you that I have this all figured out and that I handle all of these situations perfectly or with all kinds of poise and class.
No sir, I can struggle just like others with my response to the lack of control. And sometimes it isn’t pretty. Not pretty at all.
Of course that is never my aim. I would never purposefully choose to handle something poorly. I think most of us would say the same. I hope anyway.
So as I write this I have confirmation that there is a flight tomorrow and I am confirmed to be on it. Now I know a lot can happen or change in the next 18 hours but I am hopeful.
I will admit to you that there were many prayers for resolution to my flying woes. I would rather spend my time praying for my situation than stressing. One of those choices has more positive power than the other.
So friend, I will send prayers upwards for you as you deal with whatever circumstance has you feeling out of control. I would encourage you to do the same. Even when life feels out of control, we have choices. It’s difficult when it’s hard to know what the right choice is, but I will pray you make a choice to move forward.
***Thanks for reading all the way to the end. This blog is the first as I come out of my recent hiatus from writing. This is a shorter post, to get the juices flowing and warmed up again. I plan to get back at this on a much more regular schedule again.***
