Yes it matters, it really matters. I’m just now learning some really important information I wish I had learned at the time.
Let’s go back to the moment 23 years ago, which I remember vividly still to this day.
I had just graduated from college, moved to a new city, started a new job and was trying to figure out my life. As we all do.
It was in March. I’d had a few mild pains off and on and I wasn’t sure how serious it was. I was definitely a rookie in my understanding of health, how the body works and all that encompasses back then, even after battling cancer.
It was a cool spring night and I was having enough pain off and on that I was considering how successful and how wise it would be to drive myself to the hospital. I’m very independent so I felt like I would have to be in much more pain or doing much worse to even think of calling 911.
It didn’t take too much longer for the pain to dramatically increase and spread from my side to my back.
There were moments it was so intense I stopped breathing. It finally felt like that crossed the line to an emergency, call 911 scenario, so I did. I won’t sugarcoat this, it was very scary.
Because I didn’t understand what was happening to me, I didn’t understand why the pain had reduced by the time the ambulance pulled up.
I felt embarrassed, but we all rode to the hospital together while they asked me questions.
After this trip to the hospital (which actually cost us $275), a few solo trips to the hospital and doctor’s offices, I got my medical assessment.
You may have already guessed it, if you have had any experience with this. Gall stones!
I was in my early 20’s. Not supposed to have anything to do with any kind of internal stones in any organ yet. Ugh! What actually caused my gall stones, is a whole other story for a whole other post.
Long story short I was able to have my surgery much quicker in a smaller city closer to the farm, so that’s what I did. That was a blessing for sure.
So why am I telling you this?
Well it hasn’t been until very recently that I have learned some valuable information about what I went through, why I went through it, and the impact for my health moving forward that would have been life changing back then.
No matter what anyone, medical degree or not, will tell you, every single organ, system or part of your body serves a purpose. A valuable piece for your health. Nothing in our body which has been created by God is there by accident or for no reason. For so many of us, myself included, we don’t know nearly enough about the different parts of our bodies, big or small.
Our bodies have the miraculous ability to adapt if part of it is removed, however it cannot just 100% make up for something that is missing.

So why am I sharing all of this? I just want to give you a little insight into the very overlooked and misunderstood gall bladder.
I have been surprised at how things have changed for my digestion and all that entails after my surgery. I am just beginning to learn just how important the gall bladder is and how I can change the things I eat to help my body compensate for the loss of it.
If I can help you learn more too, that would be great.
